Marvel Cinematic Universe: Every One-Shot & Webseries Ranked Worst To Best
2. All Hail The King
Say what you will about the infamous Mandarin twist of Iron Man 3, but it's hard to deny that Ben Kingsley wasn't an absolute scene-stealer in his role as Trevor Slattery. And clearly everyone at Marvel Studios knew that, too, as the character got his own One-Shot in February of 2014 revealing what happened to him after the sequel's events.
Much of the short spends time allowing Kingsley to go wild and fill in some of the blanks of Slattery's past and how he went on to become an infamous icon, but it's all setup for another twist. By the short's end, his interviewer is revealed to be a member of the Ten Rings there to break him out of prison and bring him to the very real (and very angry) Mandarin to pay for masquerading as him.
The One-Shot is notable for retconning the notion that Aldrich Killian was the real Mandarin, which satisfied a number of fans, and had a number of fun connections to the MCU, like Slattery being incarcerated at Seagate - a name Luke Cage fans in particular will take notice of - or the reappearance of Justin Hammer for the first time since Iron Man 2, but at the end of the day its strength resides in the simple fact it's thoroughly entertaining, giving Kingsley an encore performance even if the whole thing is a bit of a peace offering to fans who may have felt burnt by Iron Man 3's twist, and it's unfortunate that such a great One-Shot ended up being the last one we ever got.
