In case it wasn't clear - from the ham-fisted politics and unnecessary amounts of violence - the Civil War comics are a Mark Millar joint. The writer who went on to bring us the likes of Kick-Ass was originally a work-for-hire hack, before he realised that he could make way more money off of creating original properties and selling the rights to Hollywood for a tidy sum. Civil War was one of his bigger mainstream hits, and with the original series still living on in recent memory, you can see why Marvel would want to adapt it. In most cases, Millar's name is like a licence to print money. His creator-owned comics sell like hot cakes, and tickets to the films based off them like...even hotter cakes. Unlike many of his writing peers, however, he hasn't had a whole lot of involvement in the creation of the Marvel Cinematic Universe; the studio looked to comic book talent to help guide the big screen versions. In fact he's been more involved over at 20th Century Fox, where he's been a creative consultant on the last couple of X-Men films and, apparently, had a strong part in shepherding the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot. Perhaps Civil War could coax him back into the fold...?
