2. Thanos Empowers Captain Marvel

The Prediction

We've already been led to believe that Captain Marvel's stand-alone - which comes between Avengers: Infinity War and its follow-up - won't follow the character's origin from the comics. There was some suggestion that it would be too close to how the awful 2011 Green Lantern movie empowered Ryan Reynolds' Hal Jordan, and nobody wants that toxic parallel to be made.

So, given the fact that the film comes after Infinity War - and the rumours that Carol Danvers will actually appear in her civilian form in the ensemble first - could we see a new origin whereby she's accidentally turned into the MCU's most powerful hero by Thanos' use of the Infinity Stones?

After all, one of the Reality Stone's powers is granting the every wish of who it is aimed at.

The Implications

That would certainly be a smart way of avoiding the Green Lantern parallel, but you have to imagine that fans of the character would baulk at the very idea that Danvers won't meet Mar Vell (or that the character would be wiped out of existence entirely).

However it happens, you'd have to suspect that Infinity War will somehow lead into Danvers turning into Captain Marvel, though.
