You've probably noticed a lot of New Mutants showing up on this list. Well, any good X-Men story needs an inexperienced character to act as the audience surrogate, and besides that new movie coming out as well as the odd role here or there, the New Mutants don't get nearly as much love as they should.
With that said, one of the best picks for a POV character for these potential new movies is Magma.
I'd go over her powers, but what the hell do you THINK her powers are? She makes lava. A lot of it. To the point where she can turn her entire body into pure molten rock.
As you can imagine, this makes magma one of the most powerful mutants that the X-Men have ever employed. As well as one of the most volatile since, well, magma is one of those elements that doesn't quite like to be told what to do. Which would make the character an excellent audience surrogate as her being new to her powers would show how great and destructive mutant abilities can be when not properly controlled.
