Marvel Post-Credit Scenes - Ranked From Worst To Best

3. Captain America: The Winter Soldier (No. 1)

There's no hard-fast rules to what a post-credit scene should include, but the general idea is to somehow link it to the film it's attached to while also moving forward to another, potentially unrelated movie. None have got the balance quite as right as Captain America: The Winter Soldier's mid-credits sting.

Dealing with the logistics of Hydra's infiltration of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the aftermath of the organisation's subsequent destruction, the teaser follows Baron Strucker, now Hydra's key leader, who has harnessed the powers of Loki's sceptre to create two enhanced humans; Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. All of this plays heavily into Avengers: Age Of Ultron, providing solid context to movie's in media res opening and getting fans a little ahead on what the deal is with the Twins.

There's a good mix of exposition and tease here - as much as the sting is laying Avengers ground-work, it's a self-serving piece, with a polished look and tone in-keeping with the rest of The Winter Soldier. After Age Of Ultron, there's admittedly not much more to take from it, but the same can be said of any scene that's already had its pay-off. And unlike many, this is one you can rewatch and still get chills from.
