Marvel Post-Credit Scenes - Ranked From Worst To Best

2. The Avengers (No. 1)

Marvel Studios

Where can you possibly go from The Avengers? Thus far the goal had been to bring together Marvel'€™s team of B-List heroes to life (after they'd brashly sold off Spider-Man and X-Men), which had been done with New York/box office-smashing results.

Rather than using the credit tease to hinting at Extremis, the Winter Soldier or even Ultron, Joss Whedon and Kevin Feige played a real curve ball, showing what the real endgame was. Revealing that the mastermind behind Loki€™s previous two hours of mischief was Thanos (tormentor of Marvel€™'s greatest heroes for forty years to fans, to everyone else a purple smiling guy), the mid-credits suddenly made the grand plan for the series clear.

A Titanian Eternal, Thanos'™s whole existence has been driven towards universal domination and destruction, with the previously discussed Infinity Gauntlet providing him with the power to do so. What makes this short scene so great is just how forward thinking it was; it€™'s now four years since the Avengers Assembled and yet there's still only been a handful of appearances from the mad Titan (now played by Josh Brolin), and things won't come to a head until 2018 with Avengers: Infinity War.
