With production wrapped on both films, Marvel have now released new plot descriptions for their next two films: Doctor Strange and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

The synopses come via Stich Kingdom, and shed some more light on the next two instalments in Marvel's Phase 3, which has so far brought us Captain America: Civil War. The synopsis for Doctor Strange reads:

“Marvel’s Doctor Strange follows the story of the talented neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a tragic car accident, must put ego aside and learn the secrets of a hidden world of mysticism and alternate dimensions. Based in New York City’s Greenwich Village, Doctor Strange must act as an intermediary between the real world and what lies beyond, utilising a vast array of metaphysical abilities and artifacts to protect the Marvel cinematic universe.”

So far, so standard. There's not much there that wasn't really expected or assumed, but it's good to see that they're still playing up the more otherworldly aspects of the film, and it'll be interesting to see just how that ties into the wider MCU.

As for Guardians, the synopsis is as follows:

“Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favourite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.”

There's a little bit more meat on that one, though again nothing totally unexpected and still very vague. Getting an answer to who Star-Lord's father is has been teased since the first film, and especially throughout production of this one, but the foes becoming allies and new characters at least offer some intrigue. We know Pom Klementieff is playing Mantis, but Elizabeth Debicki and Kurt Russell have also joined in as-yet un-revealed roles. It's also worth mentioning that the offical synopsis actually mentions the soundtrack as well, meaning that will play just as big a role this time around as it did in the first film.
