Considering the astronomical hype that met Black Panther's announcement it's remarkable that Ryan Coogler's stand-alone for T'Challa managed to live up to expectations. The fact that it managed to surpass even some of the most enthusiastic is simply stunning.

After he debuted in Captain America: Civil War - in a role that was expanded far more than initially intended - Chadwick Boseman's cool-as-ice king of Wakanda returned not for an origin story but for a sort of coming-of-age tale that saw him exploring the harsh realities of his father's legacy and finding his true place.

It looks stunning thanks to some absurdly brilliant production design, the character development is great across the board and in Michael B Jordan's Killmonger, we have one of the true greats of comic book movie villains. He's malevolent but sympathetic and his close parallels with T'Challa echo a plan the MCU had rolled out early, but never quite to this quality.
