Matt Damon: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

1. George Lonegan - Hereafter

Hereafter Matt Damon But the #1 spot has to go to the most tremendously disappointing of all the films on this list, and easily Damon's most misguided performance, playing former psychic George Lonegan in Clint Eastwood's dreadful Hereafter. George is a medium who is lured back into the gig pretty much against his will, due to the uncomfortably intimate details he hears about people's lives, and soon enough he finds himself involved with a young woman named Melanie (Bryce Dallas Howard). Though it's more tolerable because Damon's story is just one of several throughout the film, we're never really allowed to just soak in Damon's character - largely due to his brief screen-time - such that when his story reaches its rather somber, even depressing conclusion, we're not feeling anywhere near as much as we should be. Damon is given very little to work with, and it shows; his chemsitry with Howard is never really allowed to flourish, making the "painful" final sequences of his story just seem pretty inert and devoid of feeling. Terrible, and nobody escapes in tact. Which Matt Damon performances are your favourite and least favourite? Let us know in the comments below.
