MCU: 10 Behind The Scenes Feuds Marvel Studios Doesn't Want You To Know

Joss Whedon delivered Marvel Studios' first $1 billion hit with The Avengers in 2012, but it seems not even that earned him the creative freedom he wanted with 2015 sequel, Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Despite delivering a box office hit and introducing a new comedic tone to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Whedon revealed that he had to fight for the scenes he wanted to keep (like the visions the team had under the Scarlet Witch's control and the visit to the farmhouse), but when Kevin Feige wanted to shoehorn that Infinity Stones tease in the cave, he was issued an ultimatum.

"With the cave, it really turned into: they pointed a gun at the farm’s head and said, 'Give us the cave, or we’ll take out the farm,' — in a civilized way," Whedon told Vanity Fair. "I respect these guys, they’re artists, but that’s when it got really, really unpleasant."

As if that wasn't bad enough, it seems Feige outright lied to the filmmaker, telling him he could include Captain Marvel in that New Avengers Facility scene, only to replace her with Wanda down the line. Needless to say, it's easy to see why Whedon decided against returning for a third Avengers movie.
