At the very beginning of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Nick Fury brought all of the pieces together to create the Avengers.

13 years later, with the franchise undergoing something of a new beginning, that role is now being taken by the mysterious Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine.

As the only character to be introduced in Phase Four and already appear in multiple projects, Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ character has already made an impact on the MCU. While Kang the Conqueror is gearing up to be the big bad of the future, Val appears to be setting up with her Thunderbolts as a more street level villain.

In her so far limited interactions with both John Walker and Yelena Belova, Val’s abrasive personality, lack of sympathy, and no nonsense attitude have painted the picture of the fun, badass authority figure that will be a big part of the franchise going forward.

Right now, it’s impossible to know exactly what she is planning, but thanks to what she is already building, and her history in the comics, she has one of the biggest potential up sides of any character going forward.

Even if her role is limited to small cameos for the time being, they will be a great addition to any MCU property, and hopefully, a conversation with the Abomination in Shang-Chi is next.
