MCU: 10 Fascinating Facts Behind Iron Man (2008)

7. It Could Have Been A Tarantino Movie

While he's only made nine films so far, Quentin Tarantino has ALMOST made seemingly countless others, judging by how many he's been linked to over the years. That includes Iron Man, as he was approached to join an early production in 1999.

At this point, the film was set to be made from a script co-written by Stan Lee and Jeff Vintar, which featured MODOK as the villain and then re-written by Jeffrey Caine. After that, while the rights were still with Fox, Tarantino was approached to write and direct, but Fox soon after decided they already had too many Marvel superheroes in development, and that "we can't make them all."

That's probably the most interesting near-miss, but Nick Cassavetes and Joss Whedon were also involved. The former was hired in 2004 for a version intended for release in 2006 and Whedon has been in negotiations in 2001.
