MCU: 10 Fascinating Facts Behind Thor (2011)

4. The Reason The Agents Forgot Volstagg

Ray Stevenson is pretty perfect as Volstagg, which is why what happens to the character eventually in the MCU is such a travesty - he looks the part, he's bombastic enough and he's believable as a skilled but charming warrior. He wore a fat suit designed to make him look round but tough, in Stevenson's words, "sexing him up" from his look in the comics.

So good was he, in fact, that the film-makers were reluctant to leave him out of a key sequence even when he wasn't available to shoot it. When it came to shooting the scene in which Lady Sif and the Warriors Three arrive on Earth, he was elsewhere, and rather than write him out, Marvel Studios simply dropped him in thanks to some effects wizardry in post-production.

Unfortunately, they forgot to tell the actors involved, which is why the two agents who notive the arrival of the Nine Realms away team describe the group as "Xena, Jackie Chan and Robin Hood" and fail to say anything vaguely racist about Volstagg. That's also why he walks apart from the rest of the group - presumably because it was easier to cheat that way.
