MCU: 10 Fascinating Facts Behind Thor: The Dark World (2013)
5. Chris Eccleston's Early Call (And Why He Hated The Dark World)
In the history of the MCU, there are a fair few actors and directors who aren't exactly enthusiastic about their time working for Marvel Studios. Famously, Hugo Weaving simply refused to go back, which is why he was recast for Infinity War.
Chris Eccleston has also been very open about his time as Malekith. He wasn't a fan, which might have something to do with the fact that he had to wake up at 3am to start shooting at 10am, because of the lengthy make-up process.
He told The Guardian that he only signed on to The Dark World and GI Joe for the money and wasn't happy at all:
“Working on something like GI Joe was horrendous. I just wanted to cut my throat every day. And Thor? Just a gun in your mouth. Gone in 60 Seconds was a good experience. Nic Cage is a gentleman and fantastic actor. But GI Joe and Thor were … I really paid for being a whore those times.”
He says it was his own fault for inexperience.
