MCU: 10 Fascinating Facts Behind Thor: The Dark World (2013)

4. The Original Ending Was WAY Cooler

The planned ending for The Dark World was actually a lot cooler than the one we got. In it, Thor would have summoned lightning from the nine realms to destroy Malekith, which sounds like the kind of thing you'd have on a poster. Unfortunately, the plan was changed in favour of an ending that used all of the characters, because everyone really wanted to see Erik and Darcy save the world.

There was also a plan to destroy more of St Paul's Cathedral in the climactic battle too, but those in charge of the cathedral requested that it be left intact, as it was one of the few buildings in London that managed to avoid catastrophic damage during the Blitz of World War II.

The film-makers also faced a struggle when filming at Stonehenge, which took a long time to get permission for in the first place. They were then saddled with a load of rules - like not being able to shoot while it was open to the public and not being able to touch the stones. Logistically, it was a bit of a nightmare.
