5. Iron Lad
Iron Lad is one of those characters that might be able to pull off the long con the Winter Soldier and Mysterio seemed set up for. Iron Lad models his armour (and moniker) on Iron Man, and forms the Young Avengers after the Avengers disband. This storyline feels like it might naturally fit post snap too.
It turns out though that Iron Lad is actually time travelling villain Kang The Conqueror, although once he sees what evil his older self will wrought, he turns his back on it, choosing a life of good. Unlike the Winter Soldier and Mysterio, Marvel has a genuine chance of pulling off a shock with Iron Lad.
Despite Marvel’s coyness, we all knew Mysterio would turn out to be a villain, and the Winter Soldier being Bucky wasn’t a surprise to anyone who’d read the comics (or had just Googled the title). If he’s brought in before Kang though, he could set up the next big villain, and might not be as valiant and pure as his comic form either.
Marvel are taking bigger and bigger risks these days, as their Phase Four slate shows. Iron Lad and Kang aren’t outside the realms of possibility.
