MCU: 10 Phase 3 Rumours That Turned Out To Be Bull

4. Captain Mar-Vell Is Star-Lord’s Dad

When the first Guardians of the Galaxy ended with the question of Peter Quill’s paternity, Marvel fans came up with more possible paternal contenders than your average episode of The Jeremy Kyle Show.

With director James Gunn ruling out Quill’s comic paterfamilias J’son of Spartax, many a potential baby daddy was bandied around including Adam Warlock, the Beyonder and Richard Rider. The most likely suspect, however, was Captain Marvel. Nope, not Carol Danvers as that would be biologically impossible but the original Captain Marvel – Kree hero, Mar-vell.

It kind of made sense given Mar-vell’s cosmic powers and the fact that the Kree alien race were already introduced in the first GOTG in the form of Ronan the Accuser but all the wild speculation was put to a stop when Gunn surprised Marvel fans with the news that Star-Lord’s dad would be none other than Ego the Living Planet.

A rather obscure choice, but one that worked brilliantly thanks to Kurt Russel’s brilliant performance.
