MCU: 10 Possible Uses Of The Multiverse In Phase 4 (And Beyond)

1. It Could Be A Way For The MCU To "End"

As the MCU gets older and older, this question becomes more and more intriguing: if it is going to end one day, how will Marvel go about doing that?

There are plenty of fan theories out there that have attempted to tackle that subject, but because the MCU is by far and away the most successful film franchise on the planet (and a major part of the pop-culture world to boot), it really is unlikely that Feige has even thought about bringing his baby to an end anytime soon. But in 20, 30, 40 years... will things be different? What will Feige's successor do?

Maybe the MCU won't be this popular forever, and maybe some bad movies will halt its momentum. Maybe it will all just get a bit stale, and maybe a significant overhaul will be needed. Should that be the case, the multiverse presents the perfect opportunity to end the franchise, while simultaneously re-inventing it for a whole new generation.

All Marvel would need to do is to end the main MCU timeline - Earth-616. Whether it gets destroyed by an army of supervillains - or maybe some kind of superweapon - with Earth-616 gone, the MCU could shift focus to a different reality, and start afresh with new heroes and new stories.

Of course, we're a long, long way from that actually happening, but the MCU effectively now has a built-in reboot tool, a trigger that can be pulled whenever the people in charge decide it's time.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
