When it was announced that Spider-Man would be able to join the MCU through Disney and Sony's shared custody agreement, fans around the world rejoiced.

There was immediate speculation as to who the film's villain could be. Spider-Man's on-screen villains had been a decidedly mixed bag. Doctor Octopus and Green Goblin were great, Sandman was actually pretty decent, and the less said about Electro, Rhino, and Topher Grace's Venom, the better. Fans were nervous, as Marvel had a track record of rather forgettable villains.

Then Homecoming happened, and Michael Keaton's Vulture quickly established himself as not just one of the best Spider-Man movie villains, but one of the best in the MCU at large. He survived the film, so a lot of people wondered if he'd come back at some point, maybe as a member of the Sinister Six.

When Vulture popped up in the trailer for Morbius - a Sony film - the world freaked out. Even though Morbius isn't the MCU proper, it's still featuring an MCU character, which begs the question: just how connected are these two universes? His inclusion is exciting, because it opens up a lot of possibilities for cross-pollination between the franchises.
