MCU: 10 Things That Repeat WAY Too Much

9. The Hero's Fakeout Death In The Third Act

In almost any bombastic film, there has to be a second-act low point in which the hero is knocked down, and the "all is lost" moment marinades before the final showdown. A great example of this is having the villain think they have killed or defeated the hero, only for them to emerge from the chasm more mighty and heroic than ever.

Iron Man, Thor, Black Panther, Shang Chi and Spider-Man: Homecoming all have a scene in which the hero is thought to be dead by their allies or enemies, only to rise up and surprise the villain to the sound of a triumphant score.

Honestly, maybe the tediousness here comes from the trailers.

Anyone who has seen and scanned through them in methodical detail knows that the hero still has that one big battle to make an appearance in before the curtain call, but really there is just this lingering doubt that borders on boredom that we are just waiting for the heroes to find their strength and get back into the action.

The MCU has toyed with the hero's journey in so many ways now, it's time for them to change the game a bit. In Avengers: Infinity War it genuinely looks like at one point the heroes might win, and that's what the MCU needs to do more of:

Circumvent expectations and throw in more surprises.

I overthink a lot of things. Will talk about pretty much anything for a great length of time. I'm obsessed with General Slocum from the 2002 Spider-Man film. I have questions that were never answered in that entire trilogy!
