MCU: 10 Things That Repeat WAY Too Much
7. Women In Pain
As progressive as the MCU is trying to be, these properties can't seem to give many of their female supporting characters autonomy. Black Widow, Ant Man & The Wasp, and Guardians of the Galaxy each contained extraordinary female antagonists that held their own against the heroes physically, and sustained valid and intriguing nuances that could have been explored further.
But when the chips fell, and the veil was lifted on these female villains, we learn they are nothing more than forced to fight against their will.
Taskmaster, Ghost and Nebula were all female characters that at some point, were not in control of their actions, and were acting without independent thought.
Had Taskmaster been a vengeful mother/sister/daughter looking to settle a score with Natasha, or Ghost been a greedy thief looking to frame Steve Lang for kicks, we could have seen more flavour and nuance to the characters, besides going back to the save haven of sympathy.
It's odd that the MCU managed to build nuance (and even understanding) for a character like Thanos, but failed to give the infamous 'Dreykov's Daughter' a second dimension to her character.
