MCU: 10 Things You Learn Rewatching Thor

7. All The Good Action Is In The First Half

Not only is the drama suddenly lacking once Thor hits Earth, but the action takes a turn for the worse as well. There's only two major set pieces to speak of, and the first, which pits the now-mortal God of Thunder against a string of faceless S.H.I.E.L.D. operatives, is completely lacking in tension as well as any sort of visual flair.

Yeah it's sort of fun to see Thor wrestling in the mud, but the entire sequence is so uninspired (not to mention the cameo appearance from Hawkeye is totally wasted) that it's hard to get excited by what's going on. Especially when you know that once Thor does bash his way through all of these goons, he's not going to be able to lift his hammer anyway.

The climactic battle against the Destroyer fares even worse, though. Sent down to Earth to destroy Thor and his companions, everything from the setting to the personality-free hunk of metal that's supposed to be imposing falls totally flat.

Thor finally getting his powers back is an admittedly solid, punch-the-air moment, but the actual fight is a pretty dire, CGI slog that could have been cut out entirely.
