MCU: 10 Underrated X-Men Who Should Lead Instead Of Wolverine

6. Karma

Karma X-Men
Marvel Comics

Karma is a vastly underrated X-Men character with a hugely compelling narrative arc which would be perfect for the MCU’s character driven storytelling. Though she isn’t Chris Claremont’s most famous character (Mystique, Rogue, Phoenix, Kitty Pryde...), there’s no one who quite encapsulates his style like Karma.

Claremont specialises in strong female characters with agency and introduced more complex, literary stories into the comic book canon. Under his guidance, the Uncanny X-Men went from being a Marvel also ran into one of their hottest properties. Claremont is credited with building Wolverine into the icon he is too.

Still, Karma offers the best example of exactly what he’s about.

Karma is a Vietnamese immigrant whose parents died fleeing the Vietnam war, leaving her to raise her siblings alone. She did so with the help of the Catholic church, adding an interesting religious aspect to her narrative. She was also one of the first openly lesbian characters in a mainstream comic, so there’s a rich plot to explore.

In terms of her power set, there’s lots to be done with her mind control abilities, and she comes with plenty of leadership experience too.
