Cringe though you might at the movie's propaganda montage, where Cap is trotted around the country in order to sell war-bonds, the accompanying song "Star Spangled Man" is actually a genuinely clever, catchy tune in its own right.

Written by musical theatre legends Alan Menken and David Zippel, the song is a tongue-in-cheek tribute to the Allied propaganda machine, a thoroughly self-aware nod to unchecked jingoism and the movie's most blatant statement that, yes, it's totally in on the joke.

Whether you find the sequence overly goofy or not, tonally it's a perfect tip of the hat to the character's origins without making it overpower the entire movie. After all, how can you argue with lyrics like, "Who'll give the Axis the sack, and is smart as a fox? / Who's making Adolf afraid to step out of his box?."
