MCU: 12 Things You Learn Rewatching Thor: Ragnarok
11. Odin's Death Has No Emotional Impact
Odin (Anthony Hopkins) dies early on in Ragnarok, and considering the character's stature in the MCU, it's pretty surprising how utterly unaffecting the moment is.
Sure, part of the problem is that it's hard to believe that any Asgardian character is truly dead "for keeps", but even so, Odin's demise feels oddly rushed through without any of the gravitas or import you'd expect.
Thor and Loki (Tom Hiddleston) track him down in Norway, they chat for a few moments and then...he's gone. The music, writing, direction and acting don't really make this the significant event it probably should've been, and it ultimately feels like Odin just died to give Hela (Cate Blanchett) a convenient reason to resurface.
Considering the fine work Hopkins put into the two previous films - yes, even The Dark World - it's a shame his send-off was such a damp squib here, and neither Thor nor Loki seem sufficiently bothered to boot.
