Hands up who thought the X-Men’s first appearance in the MCU would be as a continuation of X-Men: The Animated Series over 25 years after it finished its run on TV? No one?

There was a time when it seemed certain that WandaVision would bridge the gap between the X-Men and the MCU with the casting of Evan Peters, and many have theorized about the Multiverse of Madness bringing them into the fold, but this is one way that nobody could have predicted.

Continuing from where the classic series left off all those years ago, and bringing back the original cast, X-Men ’97 will play on the huge effect of nostalgia while bringing the X-Men into the MCU for the very first time.

Unlike every other series announced on Disney+ Day, X-Men '97 has at the very least been given a loose time frame of release. We know that it will be coming some time in 2023, which gives us all a chance to binge the original series on Disney+ ready for when the magical day finally comes.
