MCU: 14 Things You Learn Rewatching Captain America: Civil War
2. The Changes To The Comics Are Entirely Justified
As with Age Of Ultron (and Infinity War, inevitably), Marvel Studios didn't so much adapt Civil War as borrow elements from the story and steal the title. Inevitably, that was always going to annoy purists who wanted to see a straight adaptation of the seminal event, but it was undoubtedly the right decision.
In focusing on Zemo's more personal story and using superhero registration as an organic extrapolation of Tony's anxiety and guilt, the Russos tied up some intriguing existing story threads. Sure, it's a shame we won't get to see the iconic moments like Spider-Man unmasking or Goliath being killed, but they didn't fit the bones of the MCU and would have needed way more manipulation to really fit.
And not killing off Captain America at the end gives us the opportunity to see him stand up to Thanos, which will be a much more fitting end than dying for superhero autonomy.
