MCU: 20 Things You Somehow Missed In The Avengers
3. Banner Or Hulk
Though it’s not so true anymore in the MCU, there was a time when Bruce Banner was constantly at war with the other part of his own being. After his accident, the Other Guy was constantly fighting Banner for control, and it often got ugly.
The Hulk was supposedly a mindless beast bound to rage and destroy whatever was in his way. Bruce managed to aim him at the Abomination in Harlem, but typically the Hulk wasn’t to be trusted. Why then was he able to stand with the Avengers without trying to rip their heads clean off?
There is a theory that makes just too much sense to ignore. There are other examples across other Hulk appearances, but for now we’ll focus on The Avengers. When the enormous green rage monster was attacking Natasha she was calling him Bruce, and when Thor took over from Black Widow he called him Banner.
In both of these occasions, Hulk was fighting against his so-called teammates. Fast forward to the Battle of New York itself and Captain America actually called the Hulk Hulk. This was where he was more compliant and could seemingly recognise his allies. Apparently, all the Hulk wanted was to be differentiated from Banner as his own person, even if it was just by how he was addressed.
