Though Rachel McAdams eventually ended up in the MCU playing Christine Palmer in Doctor Strange, she was actually offered the opportunity to star in the franchise's first ever movie.

That's right, McAdams was offered the role of Pepper Potts in the original Iron Man, but opted to turn it down, causing Marvel to spring for Gwyneth Paltrow instead.

Would It Have Worked?: Honestly, probably not. McAdams is a talented actress no question, but she would've been just 29 years old when Iron Man was shooting, and the 13-year age gap between her and Downey would be pretty distracting.

Paltrow's a better fit age-wise and she has easy, relaxed chemistry with Downey that McAdams would probably struggle to match.
