Kate Bishop first appeared in 2005 and was created by Allan Heinberg and Jim Cheung. Even though she bases her superhero identity on Hawkeye and his related characters, including Black Widow and Mockingbid, it wasn't until later that she actually took on the identity proper.

Much like Carol Danvers' recent switch of identity, it was Captain America who spurred Kate to adopt the Hawkeye mantle. Steve maintains that, because she was able to stand up to him, she deserved the mantle, with Barton having marked his early Avengers appearances by constantly bickering with the star-spangled man.

Kate's emergence onto the scene, however, occurs at an interesting time for the Marvel Universe. Back then the superhero community was on the precipice of a Civil War, while Clint Barton himself was presumed dead. In reality, Clint had adopted the mantle of Ronin, and with the character confirmed to do the same in Endgame, it could be the biggest tell-tale sign yet that Bishop is actually in the film.
