9. Spider-Man: Far From Home - Mysterio
After the world-changing events of Avengers: Endgame, it was a tough challenge creating a new enemy for us to quake in fear at. Thankfully Spider-Man: Far From Home delivered on a different kind of threat.
In the comics, Mysterio is a grand illusionist whose job at f**king with Spider-Man has always been a treat. And we're grateful that trait is carried out into the second solo outing for Tom Holland's Spider-Man.
When we first meet Quentin Blake he is looking to be groomed as the next Tony Stark; nurturing, thoughtful and understanding towards Peter Parker. We sense a genuine friendship between the two and at the turning point when Peter hands over control of EDITH to him, do we see Jake Gyllenhaal use all his acting skills.
It's not even that Jake plays Quentin as an unhinged phony so well; but the fact that his persona as Mysterio is in the same vein of megalomania as other villains, only this guy is utterly deluded by his own fame.
Mysterio is the perfect pallet cleanser after the explosive events of Endgame and a great reminder that villains don't always have to be super-serious.
