MCU: Every Marvel Cinematic Universe Movie Ranked Worst To Best

12. Ant-Man (2015)

Ant-Man has to rank as one of the MCU's biggest surprises, considering the difficult production road it had. Originally intended to be a non-MCU movie by Edgar Wright - the sticking point that ultimately cost him the job - it only became a heist comedy when Peyton Reed came on board.

Reed was a strange choice to replace Wright - even with the precedent set by Marvel in hiring comedy directors - but the combination of his experience and Paul Rudd and Michael Pena's comic chemistry proved inspired.

Rudd in particular is great as Scott Lang and this film is definitely his show: he's a different kind of hero to the rest of the MCU, since he's an everyman thrust into heroism and he's so intoxicatingly likeable that it's impossible to think of anyone else in the role.

The effects-led sequences are great (particularly in their commitment to humour) and the choice to make it a heist caper was genius.
