MCU Phase 4: 10 Biggest Challenges Facing Marvel Studios
2. Let Directors Have More Creative Control
So, you know how after Edgar Wright left the directing chair of Ant-Man over creative differences, that everyone thought such partings wouldn't happen at Marvel again? It seems everyone was wrong.
Scott Derrickson's depature from the Doctor Strange sequel is quite the loss for that film. The promise of bringing a darker, more horror-y tone to a very uniformed cinematic universe was an exciting one that fit so incredibly well with the title character, given so much of Strange's comics deal with horror.
One would assume Marvel weren't willing to let Derrickson focus on the character's horror elements, but their decision still doesn't make any sense. When filmmakers are allowed to leave their mark on these characters, audiences were given gifts like the afro-futurist Black Panther, the utterly bonkers Thor: Ragnarok, and the surprisingly deep sci-fi comedy of Guardians of the Galaxy.
The MCU needs more unique takes on their properties. Not just another mildly entertaining superhero romp like Ant-Man & The Wasp or Captain Marvel.
