MCU Phase 4: 10 Villains Who Could Actually Replace Thanos
9. The Magus
Fantasy Casting: Sam Claflin
The end of Guardians 2 teased the introduction of Adam Warlock, though with a different arc to the comic books. Even with these changes though, fans can’t wait to see him. Hugely powerful and popular, it’s a little strange that he’s not appeared already.
Perhaps he’s just being saved until Thanos is dealt with. He could be a game changer, so keeping him on the sidelines makes sense; it would be a little boring if Warlock and Danvers just swooped in and deus ex machinaed to save the day.
However, he might be being kept back for a completely different reason. Elizabeth Debicki’s Ayesha gave life to Warlock, but she might actually have brought forth his villainous alter ego The Magus instead.
Considering a big Magus arc revolves around him gathering the Infinity Stones though, he needs a new plan to avoid becoming stale.
Many have speculated that Nikolaj Coster-Waldau could play Adam Warlock, and he’d be a solid pick if they go for an older Magus. As Ayesha’s twin though, Warlock/Magus might emerge from his chrysalis at around 30. Sam Claflin then, as one of the best things in The Hunger Games saga, feels like a good choice.
