MCU Phase 4: 10 Villains Who Could Actually Replace Thanos
2. Galactus
Fantasy Casting: Alexander Skarsgård
The issue with some of these characters here is that they’re noticeably weaker than Thanos. While there’s definite workarounds - Endgame may leave them decimated and vulnerable while villains’ powers can always be punched up - the reason Galactus has long been muted as the next overarching villain is because he’s one of the few in Marvel’s stable that outgun the Mad Titan, plus he’s a comic book icon to boot.
Both Galactus and Thanos are ruthless in their goals, but Galactus poses a completely different set of problems. Any sort of hand to hand combat is impossible with a being his size, meaning the set pieces can feel fresh after the heroes have whaled on Thanos for two movies straight.
Eating planets whole is a more monumental threat too. The snap is one distinct action, but there’s lots of planets out there for Galactus to destroy. Could he beckon in the cosmic era?
Alexander Skarsgård has an underlying creepiness to him, and a voice that, with a little work, could definitely belong to a planet devouring god. If Endgame’s post credit scene is just a yawning ‘I hunger...’, it’ll keep fans glued to the next phase.
