MCU Phase 4: 10 Villains Who Could Actually Replace Thanos
3. Mephisto
Fantasy Casting: Andrew Scott
Based on the Faustian legend, Mephisto is a demonic villain who offers the MCU a new angle of darkness to explore. Just how Doctor Strange widened the capabilities of the heroes, Mephisto can bring new depths to the villains.
Part of what makes Thanos great is that he has real motivations. He’s brutal, and his ideas have led to billions upon billions of deaths, but you’d struggle to claim he’s ‘evil’.
You’d have no such problem with Mephisto. The demon often poses as Satan and is every bit as bad to the core. Complex ambitious are great, but there’ll always be a place for the truly irredeemable villains.
He’s crucial to both Silver Surfer’s and Ghost Rider’s stories in particular, so if those two arrive Mephisto will surely follow.
Andrew Scott, best known for his devilishly diabolical portrayal of Moriarty in Sherlock is the perfect fit. He has an enigmatic charm with a mask that ever so often slips to reveal a deep seated rage. The careful control he exerts in every situation makes you wonder too if the mask really did slip, or if he wanted you to see the furious depths of his soul all along.
