MCU: What Happened To Everyone Who Held The Mind Stone?

Which heroes and villains held the Mind Stone, and what happened when they did?

Now that the events of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame have come to a conclusion, the Infinity Stones are a thing of the past. They shouldn't be popping up any longer since Thanos destroyed them at the beginning of Endgame, which leads to the question, what happened to everyone who held the Mind Stone?

While there are other articles detailing what happened to the people who used the Infinity Gauntlet, or who held other Infinity Stones, this list dives into each person who held or wielded the Mind Stone for any significant period of time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Through the course of more than 20 films, a total of eight people held the Mind Stone at one time or another, and each person did something different with it.

This article doesn't rank what anyone did, instead, it presents each person who held the Mind Stone as they were depicted in the MCU from the first appearance in The Avengers, to the Mind Stone's final appearance in Avengers: Endgame.

Honourable Mentions must also go to Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, whose powers were awakened by the Stone and Hawkeye and Erik Selvig who were temporarily possessed by it. Oh, and to Shuri, List and Helen Cho - the scientists who all worked on the Stone to various levels of success.

The first time the Mind Stone is seen in the MCU was in 2012's The Avengers. Loki showed up to an underground S.H.I.E.L.D. research facility to collect the Tesseract, which was later revealed to be a housing for the Space Stone.

Loki's appearance also marked the first appearance of the Mind Stone, though it was housed within a blue container at the end of a Scepter the God of Mischief had as his primary weapon.

It is revealed that the Scepter was given to Loki by none other than Thanos himself, which suggests that Thanos held the Mind Stone first. Since this was not shown at any point in the films leading up to The Avengers, Loki holds the distinction as being the first to wield the Infinity Stone in the MCU.

He used it to take control of anyone he touched the point of the Scepter to so long as he placed it on their heart. This was used to take control of a number of scientists and S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, most notably, Hawkeye. Loki would later attempt to take control of Tony Stark in the same way, but it failed to work as he had an Arc Reactor in his chest, clocking his heart. Eventually, Loki was defeated, and the Scepter (Along with the Mind Stone) was passed to its next recipient.
