Mechanic Resurrection Review: 3 Ups & 7 Downs

3. The Wildly Unnecessary Backstory
The Mechanic Jason Statham
Summit Entertainment

Crain is mad at Bishop because he feels that Bishop abandoned him at a time of great need in the past. There are numerous hints at Bishop's younger days here but none of them are developed in any significant detail, and so it ultimately just feels quite listless, contrived and unnecessary.

Considering that Bishop is one of Statham's more interesting action heroes, there certainly would have been room here for greater character development, but the fact that the script doesn't fully commit to it makes it end up feeling pointless and shoved in for its own sake.

It honestly feels like some of this backstory may have been trimmed in editing, in turn making it feel perfunctory and half-a**ed.
