Men In Black 4 Announced: 10 Ways To Make It Not Suck

9. More Tommy Lee Jones

Page 2 How they pitched the idea of Men In Black minus Tommy Lee Jones in the first place is a mystery to me. This series is not a Will Smith solo series. It is a buddy comedy and Agent K is just as important as his partner. In Men In Black 3, this major problem was solved barely by an excellent performance from Josh Brolin as Young Agent K. But we don€™t want another time travel romp. So they can€™t hide behind Mr Brolin again. Tommy Lee Jones needs to get a lot more than eleven minutes of screen time in the new film if it is to be any good. In Men In Black 3 I found the jokes started to fall flat quickly during the period that Agent J spent searching for his missing partner. Agent J€™s banter with the time travel expert was painfully unfunny and started to kill the mood fast. Agent K is a key character because his banter with Agent J is always spot on. Plus Agent J requires a veteran to undercut his know-it-all attitude or he just becomes annoying. I understand that Men In Black director Barry Sonenfield ran into issues with Jones during the filming of Men In Black 2. But that isn€™t an excuse to write out a protagonist from a popular franchise. Smith needs someone to bounce his humour off of. The excellently straight faced Tommy Lee Jones is the only man for the job. They better move fast because he€™s not getting any younger.
