8. No Passing The Torch
This is so, so important. I am one of those rare people who enjoyed Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (dont crucify me), but theres one thing in that movie that even I couldnt stomach - Shia LaBeouf being pushed as Young Indy. People love to see brand new, fresh faced heroes. We dont like to see brand new, fresh faced actors impersonating the ones we already love. Time and time again Ive read arguments on message boards as to why Ghostbusters 3 will fail if they take this route. People dont want to see their heroes imitated and badly replicated. We are fond of them. Fans are like diamonds, they dont bend for anyone. They will never, ever accept young actors filling in for their favourite characters. The more pressing problem for Ghostbusters 3 is getting it made in the first place. But in the case of Men In Black 4, the circumstances required for a passing of the torch are falling into place. Aging lead actor? Check. Long running franchise? Check. Premise wearing thin? Check. If it hasnt already been considered, its only a matter of time. There are plenty of ways they could do it too. A new agent is brought on board and Agent J slips into the role of Agent K. Or we are introduced to a brand new pair of MIB agents who aid our protagonists in their latest adventure. God forbid we get some sort of the agents have kids storyline. I can already imagine some snarky producer marching Josh Hutcherson in as Agent Ks long lost grandson or something...could it get any worse? Well actually...
