Men In Black 4 Announced: 10 Ways To Make It Not Suck

6. Keep The Humour Fresh

Page 5 Here€™s something that I personally felt Men In Black 3 got right. What was the biggest issue with Men In Black 2? It was a big, fat rehash. Men In Black 2 relied too much on the jokes that carried the first one and didn€™t do a lot to distinguish itself to the audience. It was the sci-fi equivalent of The Hangover: Part II. Men In Black 3, on the other hand, disregarded a lot of the old jokes and made a big deal about using new material. The neuraliser was used sparingly which was an excellent decision. It was a perfect throwback to the old but the film didn€™t rely on it for laughs. I€™ve already asked for a few more scenes with Jeebs and Frank the Pug, but I€™m also asking the writers not to overuse them either. Give them cameos, not roles. Then introduce some brand new aliens with brand new gimmicks. We want fresh jokes. Emma Thompson was a welcome addition to the cast in Men In Black 3: she offered a brand new, quirky humour to the proceedings and was criminally underused last time. I€™m not saying we need a whole lot more of her. But we could definitely benefit from a lot of brand new characters similar to her, playing similar bit-roles. Keep up the excellent casting and they€™ll be on to a winner. The humour is the crutch of each of these films. Without it, the whole thing falls down. Let€™s not forget they are primarily comedies! And while I€™m on things that Men In Black 3 did surprisingly well...
