Men In Black International Review: 2 Ups & 7 Downs
1. It's The Worst Film In The Series (And The Worst Blockbuster Of The Summer)
If you saw the trailer for this movie and thought, "Well, it can't be any worse than Men in Black II", think again.
Though the series' second entry isn't a good film by any stretch, it at least feels more creative and entertaining than this - largely due to the presence of Will Smith, admittedly.
International feels blandly rote even when stood next to that disappointing sequel, but the unfavourable comparisons sadly don't end there.
It has been a mostly mediocre-to-bad summer for big-budget tentpoles - even more so than usual - and it's safe to say that of all the blockbusters released over the last few months, not a single one has felt this creatively bankrupt and bereft of even basic entertainment value.
Godzilla: King of the Monsters at least had some goofy, trashy charm and Dark Phoenix benefited immeasurably from James McAvoy's strong performance, yet Men in Black: International feels lazy and malnourished almost across the board.
However, the film manages to stop short of being a true one-star disaster for two major reasons...
