Michael Caine: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

3. Hoagie Newcombe - Jaws 4: The Revenge (1987)

Michael Caine Jaws 4 Jaws 4: The Revenge isn't just one of Caine's worst films, it's also arguably one of the worst films ever made. The film was almost universally panned upon release, with critics citing awful inconsistency issues, hammy acting and laughable special effects. If you want an idea of just how excruciatingly bad the film is, this is a feature that suggests a shark can travel from New York to the Bahamas in three days, and that non-humans are capable of understanding the concept of revenge. Caine plays Hoagie Newcombe in the film, a carefree aeroplane pilot that assists in the protagonists' efforts to hunt down the shark that has haunted their family for a generation. Aside from the cringeworthy dialogue exchanges between Caine and the rest of the cast, the acting just wasn't even remotely close to the actor's previous efforts. Caine himself has admitted in interviews since that the film wasn't one of his best, stating that he still fondly remembers filming it due to the free holiday he got by filming on-location in the Bahamas.
