3. Paulie Bleeker - Juno (2007)
This quirky and habitually charming indie film about teenage pregnancy and its pressured subsequent events brought Cera into the spotlight as he played Juno MacGuffs (Ellen Page) close friend and long-term admirer, Paulie Bleeker. Depicting the story of a sixteen year old teenager, Juno faces the pressures of adulthood when discovering she is pregnant with a child fathered by Bleeker, who in turn contemplates abortion at first but immediately decides to give her child up for adoption after meeting a couple who agree to instigate a closed adoption. The chemistry between Cera and Page, particularly at the end when they are seen playing the guitar together demonstrates one of many unsurpassed examples of an on-screen chemistry that is touching and compellingly pleasant. This gave this already excellent comedy a heart. Cera's performance radiated with flair as he embraced his character whom was the geeky and awkward guy. This contributed to the film receiving Academy awards for best original screenplay and best picture. This portrayal of that said awkwardly geeky and clumsy character was Ceras best rendition of it.
