4. David/Walter - Alien: Covenant (2017)

The reaction to both Prometheus and Alien: Covenant was a bit mixed to put it lightly. Both were a strange combination of thoughtful sci-fi and dumb b-movie, where intelligent themes violently clashed with poorly written characters, and logic was thrown carelessly into the wind.

Both movies looks set to continue dividing people for years to come, but even those who hated them admit that Fassbender was the highlight. His android characters David and Walter are basically the lead characters, and Fassbender is mesmerising as both. He's compelling as the wide-eyed, naive Walter (and initially David), but when he flips to full-on villainy as Walter in the second movie, he's completely captivating.

That Fassbender managed to turn a villainous role into the only likeable character in the movies is another testament to his ability.
