Michael J Fox: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked
2. Michael Chapman - Life With Mikey (1993)
Despite Foxs ability to reinvent familiar material in an endearing way, Like With Mikey - another culture clash movie (this time faded star turned agent and street urchin turned acting prodigy) - is a stretch too far. Throughout his career, Foxs best performances relied on strict characterisation: he was always the balance or the moral centre of his films, and his arc was strictly defined, but here he feels rudderless. The script is too meagre, the premise too unoriginal and Foxs performance is surprisingly lacking in his trademark energy for it to be any good. And perhaps it all comes down to the fact that the film is basically written as an alternate universe biography of the Michael J Fox who didnt achieve mega stardom with Back To The Future. It just doesnt ring true at all.
