Michael Sheen: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked
3. Aro - The Twilight Saga (2009-2012)
Still, if it's not the slightly ropey fairy tale epics that talented actors get roped into starring in once Hollywood catches wind of them, it's those young adult book adaptations that are currently the toast of the teen audience. In Michael Sheen's case he took a multi-film appearance in the Twilight films, as an evil vampire who opposes the less-evil vampires, all of whom sparkle in the sun. Sheen first appeared in New Moon as Aro, the head of a clandestine vampire organisation called the Volturi, who discovers that a human being - namely, Kristen Stewart's Bella Swan - knows about the existence of blood suckers - namely, by smooching Robert Pattinson's Edward Cullen - and demand she become a daywalker herself. Her refusal eventually sparks an all-out vampire war (yeah, Twilight actually has some cool bits, but don't tell anyone that if you wanna retain your street cred), and lots of scowling on Sheen's part. To be fair to the actor, anybody would have struggled with an adaptation which made following the books as close as possible a precedent, over providing compelling characters and performances.
