When the Minions are moping about in New York, they watch some TV, which leads to some rather strange cameos. The gang are watching the Woody Woodpecker short Three Little Woodpeckers and when they jump channels there are brief clips seen from the more contemporary Dragon Tales and The Big Comfy Couch. Why were these clips chosen? Well, Dragon Tales and Couch (included no doubt for sentimental reasons on the part of the filmmakers) are both public service television, so likely had minimal rights costs, while Woody Woodpecker is owned by Universal (the studio behind Minions' Illumination), so was free to use any way.
