Mission: Impossible - 15 Most WTF Franchise Moments

5. The Face Mask Printer (M:I3)

M:I3 features by far the most ingenious and technically seamless use of the mask trope in the entire series, and it's also the first movie in the franchise to decisively showcase how those improbably lifelike masks are actually made.

That's right, M:I3 reveals that the team uses a state-of-the-art 3D printer to carve out likenesses based on images of the subjects in question, which are then spray-tanned and fitted with wigs by the team themselves.

This is honestly one of those things that the series never really had to explain, but it's good, goofy fun that they tried anyway, and director J.J. Abrams clearly relishes using it to toy with audiences.
