2. Simon Pegg Has A Significantly Expanded Role
After being introduced in the third team as IMF techie Benji Dunn, Simon Pegg gets a more action-orientated role in Rogue Nation, which critics have described as a
"saving grace" while praising Pegg for
" fully into his own here as an indispensable and uniquely courageous member of Ethans team." In contrast to Renner and Rhames' more minimal presences, he's
"given the biggest supporting role and has the most to do", enough that he pretty much graduates from being a mere sidekick. It's even said that
"Rogue Nation actually devolves into a virtual two-hander between Cruise and computer-genius sidekick Pegg", and the chemistry between the two also received a hefty thumbs-up, making for a
"positively delightful comedy team". Given that Pegg was a totally un-natural fit from the second he was cast, it's impressive that he's managed to find his own niche in the franchise.
